I'm running to make life more affordable for our families and to deliver meaningful results for the Southern Tier.
Meet Dan
Dan Norton is a lifelong Broome County resident who has spent his life working, raising a family, and standing up for the community where he grew up. He was born at Wilson Memorial Hospital and raised on Hall Street in Endwell, where he learned early that if something needs fixing, you show up and do the work. That belief has guided him throughout his career and his involvement in the community.
Dan comes from a union family with deep working class roots. His father worked as a corrections officer at the Broome County Jail before becoming a letter carrier and then a postal clerk with the United States Postal Service and a proud member of the American Postal Workers Union. His mother is a social worker who spent her career working primarily with children and their families. Dan's father also served for twenty years on the Maine Endwell School Board, which allowed Dan to see firsthand how local decisions affect students, families, and district residents. From an early age, Dan learned that government should be practical, accountable, and focused on people, not politics.
Dan is running for office because he believes our area deserves steady, practical leadership in Albany. He understands how state decisions affect schools, local governments, nonprofits, small businesses, and families because he has worked alongside them for years.

From an early age, Dan learned that government should be practical, accountable, and focused on people, not politics.
Dan's family story mirrors the story of this area. Dan's maternal grandparents immigrated from Italy to Binghamton seeking a square deal and found one at the Endicott Johnson Corporation. On his father's side, Dan's great grandfather owned farmland in Endwell that later became Norton Avenue, and his grandfather served the community as both a Broome County Sheriff's Deputy and a firefighter in the Endwell Fire Department. Knowing his family history has given Dan a deep respect for working families and the individuals whose work enables the community to grow and prosper.
Dan attended local schools, including Endwell Preschool, Homer Brink Elementary, The Susquehanna School, and Maine Endwell High School. Like many kids who grew up in the area, sports were a big part of Dan's early life. He played in the Endwell Little League, the Endicott and Endwell Teener Leagues, the Boys and Girls Club travel basketball league, the CYO basketball league, and for the Endwell Rams Pee Wee Football team. Later, Dan played football and basketball at Maine Endwell High School. Dan's experiences playing sports taught him valuable lessons about preparation, trust and teamwork.
Dan pursued higher education while staying rooted in our community. While still in high school, he took classes at SUNY Binghamton. He later earned his Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University at Albany, graduating summa cum laude with a Spanish minor and election to Phi Beta Kappa. While at the University at Albany, Dan served as an intern with Congressman Maurice D. Hinchey, first in his Binghamton District Office, and then in his office in Washington, D.C.
Dan went on to earn his law degree from Cornell Law School, where he served as a Notes Editor on the Cornell International Law Journal and on the Moot Court Board.
Throughout his education, Dan worked a range of jobs, from delivering newspapers and working food service to handling packages and helping customers. Those jobs kept him grounded in the realities facing working families.
After graduating from law school in 2008, Dan returned to Broome County to build his legal career. He began his career at Levene Gouldin & Thompson and then joined Hinman, Howard & Kattell, where he is now a partner working in the Commercial Litigation and Construction Law practice groups. As an attorney, Dan has represented individuals, families, small businesses, and other organizations in state and federal courts across New York. Dan knows that the work he does can have a lasting impact upon the well-being of the people he represents. That perspective will shape how he plans to represent our area in the state legislature.
Dan has always believed that being part of a community means giving back to it. He has served as President of the Broome County Bar Association and held leadership roles with the Magic Paintbrush Project and the Binghamton Philharmonic. He currently serves as Chair of the Board of Directors for Tri Cities Opera, the Immediate Past President of the Board of Directors at Broome County Habitat for Humanity, and as a member of the Board of Trustees at WSKG. In these roles, Dan has worked on budgets, major projects, and long-term planning. He has also volunteered for years as an attorney advisor to the Maine Endwell Mock Trial Team, as a coach to his children's youth sports teams, where he has enjoyed connecting with local families and their children.
Dan lives in Endwell with his wife and their three children. His wife is a preschool teacher's aide and a graduate of Chenango Valley Schools, SUNY Broome, and Binghamton University. Their oldest daughter is studying nursing at SUNY Broome, and their younger children attend Homer Brink Elementary and are active in local sports. Like many parents, Dan often thinks about whether his children will have the chance to build good lives here, close to family and opportunity. That question is personal, and it drives his commitment to fighting for strong schools, good jobs, and a future where people can stay, build a life, and support their families right here.
Dan is running for office because he believes our area deserves steady, practical leadership in Albany. He understands how state decisions affect schools, local governments, nonprofits, small businesses, and families because he has worked alongside them for years. Dan works across lines, partners with local leaders, and uses his legal and policy background to turn ideas into action. Dan Norton is ready to be a strong, effective voice for us. He will bring his experience and his deep understanding of the issues impacting our community to Albany and deliver results for the people of the Southern Tier.
